George Brumfield Obituary

NICHOLASVILLE - George William Brumfield, 93, a native of Jessamine County, born Feb 25, 1918, the late Russell and Mary Lou Peel Brumfield, died Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at the VA Medical Center on Leestown Road. He was a member of the Bethel Christian Church, the Jessamine County Historical Society, was the oldest member of the Hart Lodge F&AM, as well as a breeder of Tennessee Walking Horses. Before retiring George was an employee of the State of Kentucky and a builder. A veteran of the US Army, he served during WWII and participated in the battles of Normandy, Rhineland, Central Europe, European-African Middle Eastern Theater, was the recipient of 3 Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, and the WWII Victory Medal. Survivors include his sister, Mary Ester Lockridge, Nicholasville; sister-in-law, Barbara S. Brumfield, FL; nephews, B. Russell Lockridge, wife Vickie, IL, Jerry Lockridge, CA, Tom Lockridge, wife Jennie, Nicholasville; nieces, Rae Howeller, husband Mike, FL, Becky Stanley, husband Mark, NC; great nephews, Matthew Lockridge, wife Merideth, TX, Henry Russell Dallas, TX, William P. Lockridge, TX, Samuel Lockridge, Nicholasville, Dylan Howeller, FL.; great nieces, Hannah Lockridge, IL, Madison Howeller, FL, Elizabeth and Emily Stanley, NC, and Madeleine Lockridge, Nicholasville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard R. "Bob" Brumfield, brother-in-law; Billy Lockridge; nephew George Bernard "Buddy" Lockridge; and great niece, Kathryn Elizabeth Lockridge. Services will be held 11am Fri, Aug 19, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Bales officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his parents in Maple Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. Honoring him as pallbearers will be Tom, Rusty, Jerry and Sam Lockridge, Harvey Brumfield, and Kevin Lowry. A Masonic Service will be on Thu, Aug 18, at 7pm at the funeral home. Visitation is 4-8pm on Thu. A special thanks to doctors and nurses at the VA Hospital for their interest and devoted care and to special friends who have been so kind to him during his illness; Ken and Betty Morgan, Harvey and Marjorie Brumfield and family, Kevin and Paula Lowry, Frank and Juanita Keller, Frank and Vivian Guthrie, Elmer and Erma Anderson, Elizabeth Hardin, Jerry Warner, Tracy Hays, Norman Flynn, Hilda Quinn, Mildred Walker, Bob Bellman, Don and Carol Thornton, Betty Lou Thornton, Dandy Madison, members of Bethel Christian Church, the Jessamine Historical Society, and the many others who visited or inquired about him during his illness. We went to Bethel with George.He had a beautiful voice and now sings in God's choir. We'll miss him always.
