DENDLE Brian John, aged 77, died in his home in Lexington on the morning of Tuesday, September 3. Born on March 30, 1936 in Oxford, England, Brian Dendle received a degree from Oxford University and a Ph.D. from Princeton University. He taught Spanish at the University of Kentucky for over thirty years from 1971 to 2005 and served as Editor of the scholarly journal Romance Quarterly. His contributions to the study of language and literature, through numerous books and articles, are known internationally. Among his many interests, Brian Dendle leaves behind a stamp collection that was painstakingly accumulated over seventy years. He is survived by his brother David, by his two sons Mark and Peter, and by his two granddaughters Emily and Alyssa. Services will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Episcopal Church (2025 Bellefonte Dr., Lexington) on Tuesday, September 10 at 3pm with visitation immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts in memory and thanksgiving for the life of Brian Dendle be made to St. Michael the Archangel Episcopal Church, 2025 Bellefonte Drive, Lexington, KY 40503; tel. 859.277.7511.
