POWELL Johnny William, Sr., "Big John", 65, husband of June Powell, died Tue, Jan 7, 2014 at his residence. Born April 8, 1948 in Lexington, KY, he was the son of the late William Emerson and Norma True Powell. Johnny was a Vietnam veteran serving with the U.S. Marines and receiving various recognitions and awards including three Purple Hearts, the Naval Citation Medal, the Presidential Medal, the Unit Citation Medal and the Vietnam Survivor Medal with four stars. He retired from Qwik Tool as a supervisor. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Johnny (Shawn) Powell, Jr., Nicholasville, KY, Mitchell (Autumn) Cole, Lexington, KY; two daughters, Tammy (Greg) Powell, Lexington, KY, Heather (Mike) Webb, Nicholasville, KY; a stepson, Shannon Manies, Lexington, KY; one sister Sharon (David) White, Lancaster, KY; his lifelong friend, Bobby (Gloria) Robinson, Georgetown, KY; a special cousin, Marty (Jan) Songer, Lexington, KY; ten grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be 11am Fri at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd. by Rev. Bobby Lakes. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
