Karen Tufts Obituary
TUFTS Karen Sue, 80, of Lexington, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014. She was born January 6, 1934 in Lima, OH, to the late Carl and Coda Crow Kuck. Mrs. Tufts was a graduate of the Ohio State University, B.Sc., Home Economics, the Lexington Community College-Associate Degree in Nursing 1985, University of Kentucky B.S.N 1988, University of Kentucky M.S.N 1989 and the University of Cincinnati, post-graduate in Psycho-pharmacology 1997. Some of the honors she received were Sigma Theta Tau (International Nursing Honorary) in 1989 and Outstanding Senior Nursing Student (Leadership, Scholarship, Character) in 1988. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority at Ohio State and a member of the Junior League in Columbus, OH. She was also a member of the Metropolitan Women's Club, a past chairman of the Lexington Philharmonic Ball, a Kentucky Colonel and Kentucky Admiral, Military Sexual Trauma Therapist for male and female vets at the VAMC. She loved her vets and continued helping them with individual therapy after her retirement. Karen was a lifelong member of Christ Church Cathedral, Team 1 leader of the Cathedral Altar Guild and a member of the Cathedrals Chapter of the Daughters of the King. She loved being the wife of her husband, Dr. Kenneth Tufts, who preceded her in death on March 20, 2011. Some of her greatest joys were family get- togethers at Christmas, Easter, 4th of July and her annual Christmas party for neighbors and friends. Surviving relatives include four children, David Tufts and his fiance Kelly Clark, and her children Olivia and Emma Seale; Natalie (Rick) Young, Jennifer Tufts and Emilie Saliani; six grandchildren, Shannon Lunsford, Ashley (Brent) Barger, Joshua (Allison) Lunsford, Gregory (Jessica) Lunsford, Justin (Sandra) Tufts and Kristin Saliani; and seven great- grandchildren, Hadley Barger, Nolan Barger, Liam Lunsford, Caleb Lunsford, Gabriella Lunsford, Alondra Tufts and Caroline Tufts; her beloved Yorkies, Coco, Casey and Cece; sister-in-law, Janet Kuck; special nephews, Brent (Marcie) Kuck and Jon (Elizabeth) Kuck; a host of other nieces and nephews; special friend, Cathy Doan; her earth angel, Paula Ott; former daughter-in-law, Carolyn Tufts and former sons-in-law, Michael Saliani and Gary Lunsford. She was preceded in death by her brother, Tom Kuck and brother-in-law, Thomas Tufts. A memorial service will be held 10:30am Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Christ Church Cathedral. Visitation will be from 9:30am until service time on Thursday at the church.
