Nell Main Obituary
MAIN Nell Dalton, 76, of Lexington, died Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at her residence. A native of Allen County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Harold Berge and Erma Leah Chaney Dalton. She was retired from the Rotary Club of Lexington, where she served as Executive Director for 27 years. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Rotary Club of Lexington. She received a B.A. in English from Western Kentucky State College and an M.A. in English from Fisk University. She taught in the Jefferson County Public Schools for ten years before moving her family to Lexington, where she first pursued her passion for textile art, creating and exhibiting works in macram‚, batik, and tie-dyed cloth. Near the end of her life she created pottery and stained glass but took her greatest joy from watching her grandchildren excel at dance, music, sports, and art. Before her time at the Rotary Club of Lexington she was office manager at Hisle and Company and The Springs Inn. She is survived by her four children, Charles Dalton Main, Shelby County, KY; William Kennedy (Chris) Main, New York, NY; John Bradley Main, New Albany, IN; and Amanda Main (Todd) Ferguson, Lexington. Her ten grandchildren are Dalton Main, Marisa (Brett) Main Versen, Louisville; Paloma, Sonia and Morgan Main, New York, NY; Maxwell and Ava Main, New Albany, IN; and Jacob, Lucy and Maggie Ferguson, all of Lexington. She was preceded in death by a sister, Bette Anne Dalton Bloss. Services will be held at 4pm Sunday at Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Grieb and Rev. Reed Polk officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8pm Saturday at Milward Funeral Home on Broadway and from 3-4pm Sunday at the church. Contributions are suggested to the Rotary Club of Lexington Endowment Fund, 401 West Main Street, Suite 305, Lexington, KY 40507. www.milwardfuneral.com
