Owings Kincaid Obituary

Well-known radiologist loved Kentucky By Karla Ward Dr. Owings Wilson Kincaid, a well-known diagnostic radiologist who practiced at Mayo Clinic, died Saturday in Rochester, Minn.

Dr. Kincaid, 88, was born in Owingsville and graduated from Morehead State University and the University of Louisville School of Medicine, as well as Vanderbilt University and the University of Minnesota Graduate School of Medicine.

He was a pioneer in developing the use of angiography to diagnose complex heart conditions, as well as vascular and renal diseases.

Dr. Kincaid became a Mayo Foundation fellow in radiology in 1952 and was named a professor of radiology in the Mayo Medical School in 1973.

He wrote many papers and participated in a number of medical societies during his career.

But he loved Kentucky, said his daughter Elizabeth Stinson, of Minneapolis.

"He returned many times," she said. "I don't want to say that he was an old Kentucky farm boy, but he kind of was."

She said he was a soft-spoken man who enjoyed the outdoors, especially grouse hunting.

He was the widower of Elizabeth Bonney Kincaid, also a Kentucky native.

In addition to Stinson, Dr. Kincaid is survived by two other daughters, Sarah Bonney Austin of Duluth, Minn., and Linda Dick of Columbus, Ohio, as well as seven grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at Charter House, a retirement home in Rochester. Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
