Pete Owens Jr. Obituary
OWENS Pete B., Jr., 74, born July 9, 1940, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 22, 2014. He was the son of the late Pete B. Owens, Sr., and Martha Sanders Owens. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn Glass Owens; three children, Pete B. Owens, III, Wendi Cottrill, and Chase A. Owens. He was predeceased by one daughter, Brandi G. Owens. Also surviving him are grandchildren, Peter D. Owens, Alexis Owens, Ashley Owens, Chase (CJ) Owens, Nick Owens and Gary Campbell. He was also survived by several special great-grandchildren. He is survived by one brother, William Lee (Fly) Owens (Brenda) and predeceased by three brothers, James, Robert and Carl Owens, and two brothers-in-law, Ray Glass (Barbara) and John Glass. He was also survived by many special nieces and nephews. Pete was retired from IBM and AAABCO, Inc. He had been very involved with many organizations over his lifetime: Lexington Jaycees, Lexington Junior Achievement, KY Special Olympics, Bluegrass State Games, KY State Personnel Board, Lexington City Personnel Board and The KY RoadCats RV Club. He was also very involved in local baseball leagues, football and basketball leagues, coaching, refereeing and umpiring for many years. He was an SEC football official for 5 years and an avid supporter of the KY Wildcats in all sports related events. He loved golfing and working at two different golf courses: Lakeside in Lexington and Kelly Greens in Ft Myers Beach, FL. In all phases of his life he made lifetime and wonderful friendships. Funeral services will be held at Centennial Baptist Church, Harrodsburg, KY, on Thursday evening, Aug 28th at 7pm. A lifetime celebration will be held at our home Saturday, Aug 30th at 1pm. Friends and family are welcome to stop by. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to KY Special Olympics or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
