WINCHESTER - William Starr Blakeman, 75, husband of Gail Blakeman, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014. Born in Louisville, KY, he was the son of the late Julian and Willie Blakeman. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and a reporter and editor of the Winchester Sun newspaper for forty years. He was president of The Kentucky Associated Press editors on 3 occasions and served 50 years as a deacon at Central Baptist Church in Winchester. Mr. Blakeman was a 50 year member of Winchester Kiwanis Club, a charter member of the Bluegrass Heritage Museum and past president of the Board. In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by his children, David Blakeman, Douglas Blakeman (Cheryl Coleman), Robert Blakeman and Rebecca Blakeman; grandsons, Blake and Will Watson; brother Edgar (Jennie) Blakeman. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 15, 2014, 11am at Central Baptist Church by Dr. Ron Stone and Rev. Chuck Bass. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lowell Jude, Conard Young, Larry Crowe, Don Wilson, Don Parker and Paul Atchison. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Blakeman Sunday School Class, members of the Winchester Kiwanis Club, staff and volunteers of the Bluegrass Heritage Museum. Visitation will be from 5-7pm, Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Central Baptist Church.
