CHASE Joan Ardery. Shortly before dawn on Jan 1, 2013, Joan Ardery Chase of Langley, WA, died peacefully. Born Nov 29, 1918 in Cincinnati, OH, she grew up in Lexington, KY. Joan received her Bachelors of English Literature and French from Transylvania University and her Masters of Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Joan married Rev. Herbert T. Chase in 1942, also of Lexington, who predeceased her in 1996. They raised their family in California, Missouri and Kentucky before moving to Lima, Peru in 1952 where they spent six wonderful years. Joan corresponded with her closest friends there throughout her life. After returning to the US, the family lived in New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania. After her husband's death, Joan moved to Whidbey Island, WA, to be closer to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She looked for joy and beauty in everything. She had a rich life that touched many with warmth and wit. Joan is survived by her children and spouses: Charlotte Chase, Bert Chase and Lenard Langlois, Erin and Walter Ruthensteiner; her grandchildren and spouses: Christopher and Sabine Ruthensteiner, Jennifer and Sebastian Schiavone-Ruthensteiner, and Kiera, Maegan, and Nathan Chase; and her great-grandchildren: Sol, Gabriel, Katya, Emile, and Joel. Joan died peacefully at home where her family held vigil and elebrated her life. She was cremated on January 3rd. Joan's interment will be held on May 10th at the Lexington Cemetery.
