IRVINE - Mildred Smithers Cook died Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in Palm City, FL. Mrs. Cook was married to the late Gordon F Cook of Beattyville, KY. Mrs. Cook was a native of Irvine, KY. Mrs. Cook was employed as a Home Economics Teacher with Lee County High School from 1965 until 1991. Mrs. Cook was a graduate of Irvine High School. She received her B.S. and Master's degrees at Eastern Kentucky University. Mrs. Cook served as Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution for seven years. She served as the Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star from 1987 to 1989. Mrs. Cook was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Beattyville. Survivors are her two sons Timothy Cook and Gregory Cook; her daughter Cynthia Scott; 3 grandchildren, Amanda Cook, Ashley Cook, and Travis Walters. Visitation will be held Sunday evening, May 19, 2013 at the Lewis Funeral Home in Irvine, KY, from 6-9pm. Order of Eastern Star Service at 7:30pm Sunday. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at 11am at the Irvine Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the West Irvine Cemetery.
