Verna Allen Obituary
SOMERSET - Verna Hail Allen, 97, of Somerset, KY, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at her residence. She was born in Ula, KY, on November 8, 1916, to the late Robert Lee Hail and Amanda Ellen Sears Hail. She was married to Woodrow Allen who preceded her in death. Verna was secretary to the Pulaski County Board of Education, bookkeeper for Dexheimer Beaty Motors, and was a vice president of Mutual Federal Savings and Loan. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Somerset where she served as chair of the Women of the Church, as well as chair of the Maude Parker Circle. She taught the children's Sunday school class and led the children's youth group. Mrs. Allen is survived by her son, John R. Allen, M.D. (Jan) and grandchildren, Hilary Hail Allen and Scott Spicer Allen (Abby). She is also survived by her sisters and brothers: Seldon V. Hail, Eula Meece, Phyllis Hail and Joyce Davis (Ben). Preceding her in death were siblings: Evelyn Baker, Wilma Russell Dragset, Eugene Warren Hail, Carl Wesley Hail and Robert Irvin Hail. Visitation will begin at 3pm Saturday, April 19, at The First Presbyterian Church, Somerset, followed by a celebration of Verna's life to be held at 4pm with a reception after, all at the church. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to The First Presbyterian Church, 200 North Vine Street, Somerset, KY, 42501.
