LENNEY Mary Whalen, 91, Lexington, passed away Tuesday, May 6th at Richmond Place Nursing Home. She was born on January 13, 1923 in Ballston Spa, NY to the late Gertrude and James Whalen. She was a member of Christ the King Cathedral where she served in the Altar Society and Choir for many years. Mary earned a degree in Education from Potsdam College, where she was a proud member of the Crane Chorus and met the love of her life, Edwin Lenney, her husband of 69 years. After living in NYC and Poughkeepsie, NY, they settled in Lexington to raise their family. Mary's life was one of service, dedicating many decades of volunteerism to the Girl Scouts, the Lexington Public Library, Fayette County Homemakers, Center for Creative Living and numerous other organizations. Working in the garden, sewing and travelling throughout the United States and Europe gave her great pleasure, including the time she and her fellow choir members sang at the Vatican. She is preceded in death by a sister, Alice L'Episcopo, and a son, Richard. In addition to her husband Ed, survivors include sons Joe, John and Bill (Ann) Lenney, daughters Beth Geran and Margaret (Jim) Ling, grandchildren Amelia (Marc) Cousoulis, Ryan (Wanda) Geran, Angela Lenney, Emily and Evan Ling, and great-grandchildren Noah and Ava Geran and Anna Cousoulis. Funeral mass will be 10:30 am Saturday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 10am until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
