BELLEVUE - Most Reverend William A. Hughes, D.D., 91, passed away on February 7, 2013 at Carmel Manor Nursing Home in Fort Thomas, KY. Bishop William Hughes attended St. Charles Seminary in Baltimore, MD and St. Mary Seminary in Cleveland, OH. He was ordained on April 6, 1946 at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown, OH. He was appointed as Bishop of Covington on March 13, 1979 and installed in the Diocese of Covington on May 8, 1979. Bishop Hughes retired as the eighth Bishop of Covington on July 4, 1995. Bishop Hughes was born September 23, 1921 in Youngstown, OH to the late James and Anna (nee: Philbin) Hughes. He is survived by his Sister, Patricia Brown and many nieces, nephews and friends. Reception of the Body will be 12pm on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, Covington, KY with visitation following until 7pm. There will be a Vigil Service at 7pm. Visitation will resume on Friday, February 15 at 9am with Mass of Christian Burial at 12pm at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption. Following mass there will be a reception at the Covington Latin School. Burial will take place in the St. Mary's Cemetery Ft. Mitchell, KY.
