CARLISLE - Leona Helen George Trussell, 84, widow of Robert T. Trussell, passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 at Johnson-Mathers Nursing Home. A native of Nicholas County, she was born February 5, 1929 to the late Thomas and Flossie Shields George, was a retired employee of Jockey International, a member of both the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, where she held many offices at the local, state and national level, and was a devoted member of the Myers Christian Church. She is survived by 2 sons, Larry (Shirley) Trussell and Terry (Patty) Trussell, of Carlisle, 2 sisters, Bonnie Minton, of Lexington, and Jean McCarthy, of Fairborn, Ohio, a brother, Rondall George, of Carlisle, 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were a brother, Jerry Whayne George, and a sister, Eunice Bromagen. Services will be conducted at 10am Friday, December 13, 2013 at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by Rev. Julian Hammonds with burial following in the Carlisle Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Billy Reese Allison, Dennis Allison, Roy Fryman, Marshall Fryman, Jim Galbraith, Michael Hatton, Gary Stone and Junior Terrell. Honorary bearers will be Rodney Hatton, Mike Pryor, Roger Walker and members of the VFW and American Legion of Carlisle. Visitation will be after 6pm Thursday.
