Allen Harman Obituary
HARMAN Allen Theodore, Sr., 88, of Lexington, widower of Betty Jane Crowe Harman, died Sunday, June 22, 2014. He was the son of the late Frank Clinton and Katie Hinton Harman. He was retired from the Burley Tobacco Growers as the Vice President / Secretary Treasurer. He was a graduate of Strayer University and was recently recognized as a distinguished 1948 graduate. Mr. Harman proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Southhampton in the Pacific from 1943-1945. He coached in the Gardenside Little League for five years. He and his wife were charter members of Gardenside Christian Church and later became members of Southland Christian Church. He had been a member of the Willis Memorial Bowling League at Southland Bowling Lanes. Survivors include three sons, Allen (Debbie) Harman, Olive Hill, KY, Randy (Kathleen) Harman and William Harman, both of Lexington; three daughters, Karen (Gino) Guarnieri, Nicholasville, Lesle (Eric) Ham, Florence, KY and Valerie (Bill) Cecil, Lexington; 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Harman, Sr.; grandson, John Caleb Harman; a great grandson, Isaiah Corcoran; two sisters, Genevieve Anderson, Kathleen Beaver and a brother, Garland Harman. Funeral services will be 11am Thursday in the chapel at Southland Christian Church with burial to follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8pm Wednesday at Milward Southland and from 10am until the service Thursday at the church.
