Curtis Corey Obituary

BARBOURVILLE - Mr. Curtis Corey, 78, of Barbourville, passed away Monday morning, Jan 9, 2017 at Baptist Health Corbin. He was a son of the late John H. and Maggie Black Corey born on April 21, 1938 in Knox County. Curtis was a member and deacon at the First Baptist of Barbourville, where he served in many ministries including AWANA and was a local business owner. On June 22, 1956, he united in marriage with Venna Lou McVey and to this union three children were born. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara Carty, Marie Chesnut and Lorene Corey and three brothers, Samuel Corey, Charles W. Corey and John H. Corey Jr. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Venna Lou Corey of Barbourville; his children, Debbie Patterson and husband, Jim, Cindy Hildebrand and husband, Rick, and John Curtis Corey and wife, Leighann, all of Barbour-ville; two sisters, Faye Terrell of Lexington and Mary Lois Asher and husband, Eugene, of Nichol-asville; seven grandchildren, Michelle McDonald, Angela McDonald, Joni Wireman, Christopher Hildebrand, Josh Hildebrand, Riley Corey and Reece Corey; four great grandchildren, Jayden Alford, Dalton Smith, Alexis Hildebrand and Abigail McDonald; a special friend, I. V. Smith, who he thought of as a son; among other loved ones and dear friends. His funeral service will be conducted at the First Baptist Church of Barbourville Fri, Jan 13 at 1pm with Rev. Shane Nickell, Rev. Cleo Goodlett and Rev. Dennis Chesnut officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Donnie Chesnut, Corey Chesnut, Corey McVey, John Daniel McVey III, J. M. Hall, Mike Corey, Dion Pickard and Rex Patterson. Honorary bearers will be his First Baptist Church family and his past and present employees. Friends may call at the church Thursday between 6pm and 9pm and Friday prior to the service. Expressions of sympathy may go to the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, 201 N. Main Street, Barbourville, KY 40906. Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.

I am so sorry for your loss. Just know that I am praying for your family in your time of sorrow. I always thought Curtis was such a very good man and he was always very nice to my Dad. If you all need anything please just let me know as I will try to do all I can for you all. I pray that God will help you all through this very tough time in your lives. Love to all.
