Vaughan B. Martin, 82, Algoma, passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013 at the Kewaunee Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 6, 1931 in Milwaukee to Elmer and Olga (Brandenburg) Martin. Vaughan graduated from Washington High School in Milwaukee. He entered the US Navy
and served aboard the USS Wright during the Korean War
. After his discharge Vaughan attended Milwaukee School of Engineering. He married Patricia Nemetz on Sept. 22, 1956 in Kewaunee. Vaughan was in sales for the Wisconsin Telephone Co., and a sales agent for AAL. He was captain of the guards at the Kewaunee Nuclear Plant until his retirement. He enjoyed building projects in his work shop.
Vaughan is survived by his wife Pat, daughters Mary Martin and Melanie (Nate) Tepp and special "son" Russell Nell; grandchildren Rachell (David) Austin, Howard; Rebecca (Mark) Olson, Mishicot; and Ben Nell, New York; three great grandchildren Marissa and Jacob Austin and Sierra Olson; step great grandchildren Lindsey, Emily and Nick (Stephanie) Olson; and step great great grandchildren Kolton Rego and Harper Olson, two sisters-in-law Helen (Gary Porter) Nemetz and Barbara Nemetz; and brother-in-law Gene (Kay) Nemetz
Vaughan was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law John Nemetz and his in-laws Eugene (Jayn) Nemetz.
Family and friends may call at the SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma from 4 - 7:30 PM Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013. Prayer service 7:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. John Moll. Burial will take place in the Arlington Cemetery, Milwaukee.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Mansky and everyone at the Bellin Cancer Center, Dr. Zenner for his great care and comfort. Also a big thanks to everyone at the Kewaunee Care Center, Pastor Moldenhauer and Pastor Moll for their prayers and to Unity Hospice, especially Jenny and Nancy for all their help and compassion.
