Zeitler, Harold G.

Harold passed away Sat. April 6, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. Harold G. Zeitler was born on November 17, 1930 to Erwin and Julianna Zeitler, in the Rio Creek area of the township of Lincoln, Kewaunee County.

He lived his entire life in the Rio Creek area. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, attended Rio Creek State Graded School, Algoma High School, University of Wisconsin Farm Short Course, Madison, the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, where he earned the OPHI ETA SIGMA award, and the Luxemburg Veteran Farm Training Course. Harold served 2 years in the U.S. Army, including 1 year in Korea as a tank commander with the 140th Tank Battalion. He was awarded the Purple Heart as a result of wounds received in combat in Korea. He was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.

Harold married Jeanette Post of the West Kewaunee area on August 19, 1956. They spent their married lives in the Rio Creek area, operating their farm and helping and serving their church and community in many ways.

Harold was a proud member of the Guardian Society of Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. He had a love of music. He was a choir member, became an organist at St. John's at a young age, and played regularly on the organ in his home.

He is survived by his dear wife of 56 years, Jeanette; his children Judith Zeitler Muniz, John (Brenda) Zeitler, six grandchildren, Joseph (Alaina), Elizabeth (Derrick), and Benjamin Muniz, and Bradley, Bethany and Jennifer Zeitler. Brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Judith Zeitler, Sylvia Zeitler Atzinger (Victor), Bernice Machut, Robert & Rita Post, Roy & Donna Post, Carol & James Nemecek, Arlene Gruetzmacher, Roger & Carol Post, Shirley & Sheldon Prodell, Ellen Post and many nieces and nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by his Son-in-law Robert Muniz, his parents Erwin and Julianna Zeitler, his brothers Lester and Edgar Zeitler, his father and mother-in-law Fred and Elenora Post, and 2 brothers-in-law, Wallace Machut and Wayne Gruetzmacher.

Family and friends called at the SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma from 3 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9th and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 10th at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Rankin until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Carl Brewer officiating. Burial in the church cemetery with full military rites.
