Robert Mozingo Obituary

SEVEN SPRINGS - Robert Joseph "Bobby" Mozingo, 70, of Seven Springs, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at his home. Bobby was born June 8, 1943, in Lenoir County to the late Franklin Delmar Mozingo and Iris Outlaw Mozingo. Bobby proudly served his country retiring from the United States Army with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He served four months during the Cuban Missle Crisis, six months during the uprising in the Dominican Republic and two tours in Vietnam. Bobby's patriotism ran deep. He was always eager to speak or salute a fellow veteran. Following his retirement from the military, Bobby worked almost 20 years with Smithfield Packing. Bobby was active in the Disabled American Veterans and was a former vice president of the Greenville chapter. Bobby also formerly served as a vice president with the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 272 in Greenville. He was currently serving on both the state and national boards of the Vietnam Veterans Association-POW/MIA. Bobby had a great love for history. He was a past co-president of the Seven Springs Historical Association and a past member of the Lenoir County Historical Association. He was presently a member of the Bladen County Historical Association and was on the board of the Harmony Hall Historical Plantation in Bladen County. Bobby served as a past Lieutenant Commander of The Goldsboro Rifles. He especially enjoyed being both a Civil War and Revolutionary War re-enactor. He proudly served his community of Seven Springs as a former member of the town council. Bobby enjoyed woodworking, blacksmithing and working in his yard. He especially liked good conversation and never met a stranger. A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, June 6, 2014, at 11 a.m. from Pineview Cemetery with the Rev. Ashley Summerlin officiating. Bobby is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen Marcom Mozingo; three children, Robert Joseph Mozingo Jr. and wife Elva, of Kinston, Karen Mozingo Byrd and husband Mike, of Kinston and Jennifer Mozingo Hill and husband Harry Jr., of La Grange; nine grandchildren, Matthew Mozingo "Sabrina," Stephanie Mozingo "Bradley," Dalton Mozingo "Kristen," Devane Mozingo "Jordan," Andrew Mozingo "Michaela," Daniel Byrd, Adam Byrd, Brooke Mozingo and Trace Hill; three great-grandchildren, Brady Sheppard, Michael Mozingo and Cash Bailey; two step-grandchildren, Kristin Hanlon "Jamie" and Taylor Coburn; one adopted son, Jordan Houston; along with a number of nieces and nephews.
