Ball, Naomi (Mercer)*  
WILSON | Mrs. Naomi Mercer Ball, 83, died Thursday evening, December 11, 2014. A native of Duplin County, she was born December 20, 1930, the daughter of Tobie and Effie Taylor Mercer. Along with her late husband, Bryan C. Ball, she lived most of her life in Lenoir County and Kinston. She was a member of Westside FWB Church and had retired from Carolina Telephone. Following the death of her husband, she relocated to Wilson to be nearer her daughters and their families. Funeral Services will be held 1:30 PM Monday, December 15, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Reverend Arnold Ball officiating. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston. Mrs. Ball is survived by her daughters, Gail Ham and husband, Harvey, and Terri Tedder and husband, Kenny, all of Wilson; grandchildren, Brandon Ham and wife, Marlo of Wilson, Aleah Ham Darnell and husband, Justin of Clayton, and Bryan Tedder of Wilson; and great-grandchildren, Bryden Darnell and Bentley Ham. The family will receive friends on Monday from 12:30 – 1:15 PM prior to the service and also at the home of Harvey and Gail Ham, 2804 Deerfield Lane, Wilson, on Sunday evening 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Brown, Carlton Haywood* - TRENTON  
RICHLANDS | Carlton Haywood Brown, 91, of Trenton, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014, at his home. A native of Jones County, he was a son of the late Benjamin Ann and Eva Koonce Brown. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WWII, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. Surviving are his wife, Ruby Smith Brown of the home; a daughter, Carla Berg and husband Christian of Trenton; two grandchildren, Benjamin Berg and wife Erin and Matthew Berg; and a special nephew, Tim Greene. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Brown, and a sister, Annie K. Greene. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home, Richlands, with the Rev. Rick Vernon officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial, with Military Honors, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Benjamin Brown Cemetery in Trenton. Burkett, Roger Dail*  
LA GRANGE | Roger Dail Burkett, 65, passed away at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John William and Robert Burkett; as well as his sister, Faye Koonce. Roger was a maintenance supervisor with the Lenoir County Public School System for 32 years and also served his country in the Navy. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis A. Burkett of the home; daughters, Tracey Adams and husband Eric, of Chelsea, AL, Tonka McCoy and husband Sammy, of Grifton, Brittany Dunn and husband Clay, of La Grange; sons, Derek Burkett and wife Emily, of Wyse Fork, C.B. Hardman and wife Toni, of Winterville; sisters, Cynthia Jones, Ann Crook, Ethel Sasser, and Angeline Haworth; brothers, David Burkett, Elbert Burkett, Jesse Burkett and Eugene Burkett; grandchildren, Sam and Jake McCoy, Zach and Liam Adams, Cain and Cameron Burkett, Meghan Cornelison, Rebecca Cornelison, Noah Cornelison, Emerson Dunn and Gates Hardman; as well as honorary family members, Noah Avila. His faithful companions, Rocky, Boston and Bailey. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Sowers officiating.
