Hodges Jr., Samuel Carter* - Durham  
DURHAM | Samuel Carter Hodges Jr., Architect Emeritus, age 84, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at his residence. Born on August 10, 1930 in Durham, North Carolina, Sam was the son of the late Samuel C. Hodges, Sr., and Martha Alise Hodnett Hodges. In 1954, Sam married Doris Louise Moore of Kinston, NC. They made their home in Durham, NC. Surviving, in addition to Doris, are five children; Doris Alise Hodges (Willis A. Connell) of Stokes, NC, Kathryn Gwynne Hodges (R. Stephen Smith) of Chatham County NC, Susan Carolyn Hodges (Kenneth R. Parham, Jr.) of Durham County, NC, Virginia Lee Hodges (Jason E. Weidenfeld) of Wheaton, MD, and Samuel C. Hodges III (Nancy Marie Betler) of Charlotte, NC. There are nine grandchildren, Carolyn, Elizabeth, Brian, Andy, Kevin, Carter, Alexandra, Borie, and Estelle; and two great grandsons, Leland and John Willis. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00pm Friday, May 1, 2015 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. A memorial services will be held 4:00pm Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Glendale Heights United Methodist Church. Interment will be private. Killette, Addie S.*  
LA GRANGE | Addie Smith Killette, 90, of La Grange, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at her home. Addie was born January 23, 1925 in Greene County to the late Guy T. Smith and Alice Wells Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty seven years, Reece Killette. Addie will be remembered for her unconditional love as a wife, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her compassionate spirit and soul, her graciousness, her hospitality and her gift of finding joy in helping others. Family was paramount to Addie and she relished her role as matriarch of the family. Her faith in God guided her through life and she loved worshiping God at her church, Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church. At home, Addie enjoyed tending to her flowers and garden. A service to celebrate and honor her life will be held Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 3 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Brown and Pastor Johnny Pike officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Addie is survived by two daughters, Alice Faye Skinner and husband, Bobby and Gloria Anderson and husband, J.P.; five grandchildren, Teresa Sutton and husband, Mike, Marsha Hart, JoAnn Letchworth and husband, Charles, Amy Delia and husband Jeff and Scott Anderson and wife, Nichole; six great-grandchildren, Matthew Sutton and wife, Casey, Jason Rose and wife, Nicole, Brianna Rhodes, Heather Faulkner, Jake Faulkner and Colin Anderson; three great-great grandchildren, Jason Connor Rhodes, Tristan Rhodes and Jaelyn Rhodes. In addition to her parents and husband, Addie was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Hill; and a brother, Zeb Smith. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2-3 and at other times they will be at the Killette home. KINSTON | James Ervin "Monk" Newkirk, 80 of 1907 Northview Drive, died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Greendale Forest Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Snow Hill. Services will be held 1:00pm Saturday, May 2, 2015 from the Robert Swinson, Jr. Memoiral Chapel, burial to follow in Westview Cemetery. Survivors are his wife, Mary Fuller Newkirk of the home two sons, Charles Fuller of Snow Hill and Bryant Warren of South Carolina, one sister, Merletta Davis of Charlotte; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2015 from the Robert Swinson, Jr. Memorial Chapel. Swinson Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his mother, Lucille Suggs Atkinson of the home; sons, Marquan Atkinson and Melek Atkinson of Kinston; daughter Trenice Atkinson of Ayden; sisters, Tarmeshia Atkinson of Greenville, Tamika Atkinson of Snow Hill, Jonika Atkinson of the home, and Sheletta Williams of Durham. Brown, Linda A.* - Goldsboro  
GOLDSBORO | Linda Alphin Brown, 68, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family. Linda was born in Wayne County on January 1, 1947, to the late Millard and Nettie Mae Casey Alphin. Her most significant role in life and what she did best was being a loving mother to her three sons. Linda also enjoyed watching Carolina basketball. A service celebrating her life was held Tuesday at Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Emmitt Jones officiating. Interment will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Pineview Cemetery. Linda is survived by her husband, Selby Jackson Brown; sons, Thomas Jones and wife Suzanne, Dennis Jones and wife Daphney, and Scotty Jones and wife Brenda; step-daughter Donna Holcombe; sister Carolyn Jones and husband Emmitt; brother Donald Price and wife Retha; grandchildren, Stevie Johnson, Brandon Jones, Chris Jones and Jason Register; step-grandchildren, Cory Holcombe and Kendell Holcombe; and great-grandchildren, McKenna Johnson and Kaylan Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth Price and Jimmy Alphin, and her step-son, Selby Franklin Brown. The family would like express special thanks to Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the great care they gave Linda and her family during her period of declining health. TRENTON | Thelbert Earl Davidson, 78, of Trenton passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Born in Beaufort County on August 30, 1936, he was the son of the late Harvey and Cassie Harrington Davidson. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Davidson, his son Gary Davidson, his parents, and his brothers, William and Lonnie Davidson. Survivors include his son, Jimmy Davidson and wife Carol; his daughter, Dean McDonald and husband Jay, all of Trenton; his brother, Edward Davidson and wife Shirley, of Hillsborough; his sisters, Stella Geisall of Ontonagon, Mich., and Ruby Mason and husband Carlton, of Blounts Creek, N.C; seven grandchildren, Pennie Ipock and husband Allen, Dora Toews and husband Bradley, Aaron Davidson and wife Jenny, Steven Davidson and wife Cindy, Jason Davidson and wife Tabatha, Earl McDonald and wife Tabitha, Abby Heath and husband Trevor; and 14 great-grandchildren.
