Betty Edwards Cooke

GREENSBORO - Betty Edwards Cooke, 83, of Greensboro, N.C. joined her husband Murray in heaven on March 25, 2013. A memorial service will be held at Guilford College United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, with visitation following the service in the resource room. She was born on June 1, 1929, in Durham, N.C., daughter of William Roy and Lorena Edwards. She received her bachelor's degree from High Point College in 1951 as was an elementary school teacher for several years. While at High Point College she met the love of her life, Murray. They were married for 52 years until his death ten years ago. Betty always put others before herself and served the community in many ways. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and Charity League of Greensboro for many years. She was also a member of the Sarah Circle and James Tew Sunday school class at Guilford College United Methodist Church for over 20 years and was awarded the United Methodist Women's Pin for service to others. Betty contributed to many worthy causes on a daily basis with her time and talents. She always met each person with a beautiful smile and a twinkle in her eye. She loved the beach and she spent many happy years with family and friends at her home in Surf City. She is survived by her four children, Betty Ann Lorah and husband Bill, of Kinston, Avery Cooke and wife Rey, of Apex, David Cooke and wife Natalie, of Kernersville, and Lorena Hall and husband Steve, of Jamestown; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; her brother, Bill Edwards of Surf City; sister in law Kathy Cooke of Raleigh; many nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends. Betty was lovingly cared for in her home by her family and oldest grandchild Rose for the last two months of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted to Guilford College United Methodist Church c/o the Building Fund, 1205 Fleming Road, Greensboro, NC 27410.
