Florence Kilpatrick "Pat" Young

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Florence "Pat" Kilpatrick Young, 88, entered into eternal rest surrounded by family on August 27, 2013, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Pat was born June 23, 1925, in Kinston, N.C. She was the daughter of James Lewis and Addie Rowena Marine Kilpatrick and the youngest of eleven children. After graduating from high school, Pat went on to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education from Breneau College in Gainesville, Ga. While at Breneau, she joined the Phi Mu Sorority, and it was at one of their dances that Pat met her future husband, Charles W. Young. Other than family, Pat's next biggest passion was playing bridge. She was an outstanding duplicate bridge player and early in her bridge playing career earned the title of Life Master. Just before her stroke, Pat played her last game of bridge and won. She was on "cloud nine!" Pat enjoyed participating in various organizations and was the Past Matron of Wanakena Chapter 650 Order of Eastern Star in Rome, N.Y. She was also Past Grand Representative to North Dakota for New York State. Pat was a member of the Women of the Moose, Daughters of the Nile, and the American Baptist Women's Ministries. Pat was co-owner/operator of their family owned businesses which included a paper company, gift shops, and a campground. Prior to retiring, Pat's greatest enjoyment came at the end of the day when she could sit on the deck Charlie built at Willow's Campground and watch the sun set on Lake Ontario. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (2009) and her daughter Sandra (2012). She is survived by her sister, Irma Lee Barwick; daughters, Patricia and Robert Dudding of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Susan and Alan Gorsuch of Watford City, N.D.; sons Charles Jr. and wife Jane Young, of Beech Mountain, N.C. and James and Claudia Young of Loveland, Colo.; grandchildren, Shannon (Joshua Hamblin), Tracy (fiancé Bradford Ryll), Jeremiah James, Maria and Nicholas; and great-grandchildren, Kyce Gregory and Jenner James. Pat was also known as "Aunt Baby Doll" and is survived by 35 nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2013, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home, 1608 W. Vernon Avenue, Kinston, N.C. and also from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at British Chapel OFWB Church, Kinston, N.C. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. September 14 at the church.
