George Freeman Turnage

George Freeman Turnage, 76, went peacefully home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in the early morning hours of April 7, 2013, surrounded by the family he cherished so much. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:30 pm Wed., April 10, 2013 at Bethel FWB Church in Kinston, NC with Rev. Chris Truett and Rev. Allen Stocks officiating. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Dorothy Raper Turnage; daughters Teresa O'Neal and husband Allen and Beverly Lee and husband Jerry; grandchildren Austin, Logan, Amanda and Jordan; siblings Christine Talton, Ethel Gates, Jackie (George) Taylor, Linda (Terry) Watts, and Gary (Sandra) Turnage; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Mr. Turnage was a hard worker, having retired from farming but employed at his death by Harvey Fertilizer Co, where he worked the past 23 years at a job he enjoyed with people he loved. He was a man of few words, but his cherished peers, neighbors and family would say that his life was a testament to his Christian values of honesty, gentleness, and kindness towards all. He enjoyed fishing with his son-in-law and grandsons, tending his garden, and his faithful dog, Daisy. The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Gallaher and Dr. Whitlark, and the LMH CCU nursing staff, for their compassionate care. The family will receive friends at the church following the service, and at the home, 561 Pearson Road, Kinston. Burial will be Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 11:00 am at Pinelawn Memorial Park. While flowers are appreciated, please consider a gift in his honor to Bethel FWB Church's TV Ministry, 1936 Banks School Road, Kinston, NC 28504. Edwards Funeral Home will be handling arrangements.
