Grady W. Butner Sr.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Born May 17, 1950, in New Bern N.C., to Douglas C. and Elsie Butner, Wayne passed away on November 8, 2012, at the age of 62, after a long illness. Wayne was a retired electrician and had worked for several companies on the Peninsula for over 40 years. He loved the Miami Dolphins and Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. He was a kind and gentle person and will be sorely missed by his family. He is now in God's hands and his earthly suffering has ended. He was preceded in death by parents; and his son, Grady Wayne Butner Jr. He is survived by his son, Jason Douglas Butner (Melissa); his grandchildren, Isaiah, Sophia and Emma. He is also survived by his brother, Douglas Butner Jr. and wife, Maxine of Kinston, N.C., his brother Terry Austin Butner of Big Pine Key, Fla.; his sister, Karen Benson and her husband Robert, of Newport News; and four nieces. He is also survived by his wife, Roxanne and her two sons, Mark and Chris Verastek. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 at Peninsula Memorial Park, officiated by the Rev. Kenneth Trinkle. A celebration of Wayne's life will be held at noon, Saturday, December 8 at the home of his brother, Douglas Butner Jr., 1317 E. New Bern Road, Kinston N.C.
