Hazel Sutton Hardy

Kinston - Hazel Sutton Hardy, 84, of Kinston, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2013. Hazel was born December 12, 1928 in Lenoir County to the late Jack Sutton and Cornelia White Sutton. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty one years, J. Lemuel Hardy; and grandson, Richard Williams. Hazel was a lifelong member of Wheat Swamp Christian Church. While serving her Lord at Wheat Swamp she served as a Deaconess, participated in the Joy Club and looked forward to the church's annual pepper relish sale and harvest festival. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting and loved cooking for everyone. A lifelong homemaker and farmer's wife, Hazel later worked at Miss Dy's Daycare where she enjoyed being called "Miss Hazel" by the children. A service of remembrance will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Rev. Hank Jarman officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. Hazel is survived by two sons, Lemuel Sutton Hardy and wife, Faye of Kinston and Jackie L. Hardy and wife, Donna of La Grange; two grandchildren, Angela Sutton and husband, Scott of Snow Hill and Brian Williams of Sneads Ferry; granddaughter-in-law, Donna Williams of Kinston; five great-grandchildren, Ashley Sutton, Elizabeth Sutton, John Williams, Cassidy Willoughby and Sommer Willoughby; sister, Evelyn Shackelford and husband, Jerry of Hookerton; along with a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
