James Thomas "Tommy" Whaley

GRIFTON - James Thomas "Tommy" Whaley, 72, formerly of Jefferson Drive, Kinston passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Dixon House in Grifton. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a forklift operator with Moen until his decline in health. Tommy was a member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW. He was preceded in death by his father, Duelin Whaley; his mother, Doris Gladson Whaley Dowdy; his wife, Dorothy W. Whaley and his step-daughter, Debra K. White. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014, at Pinelawn Memorial Park with the Reverend Buddy "Lee" Johnson officiating. Survivors include his step-daughter, Samia Smith and husband Forrest, of Tarboro; his step-sons, Buddy "Lee" Johnson and wife Pam, of Vanceboro and Zeb R. Johnson and wife Bobbi, of New Bern; his sisters, Margaret E. Stocks and Helen W. Wiggins and husband Buck, all of Kinston; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank United Hospice and the staff of Dixon House for their dedication and support given to Tommy.
