Lois Thornton Flowers

KINSTON - Lois Thornton Flowers, 101, of Kinston, passed away Sunday March 30, 2014, at Magnolia Cottage in Dover. She was born and raised in Sampson County and attended NCCW in Greensboro (UNCG) and Atlantic Christian College (Barton College). While teaching school, she met her late husband, Don C. Flowers, and became a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the oldest living member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kinston. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday April 2, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Wanda S. Neely officiating, with visitation to follow. Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove. Survivors include her children, Kitty Flowers Hargett of Richlands, Joanna Flowers Schmeissner of Rockville, Md., Don C. Flowers Jr. and wife Sandra S. of Winterville and Warren L. Flowers and wife Anne G. of Richlands. Lois is also survived by her grandchildren; William B. Hargett III and wife Mary S., Catherine Hargett Beaman and husband W. Joseph., Virginia Flowers Holcombe and husband Randal J., Don C. Flowers III and wife Margaret Eagles, Peter J. Schmeissner and wife Maria S., Jason A. Flowers, Christopher C. Flowers and wife Erica C., and Sarah Flowers Gray and husband Joshua; and 10 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Magnolia Cottage for their exceptional care.
