Thelma Jones Sanderson

KINSTON -Thelma Jones Sanderson, 85, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Mrs. Sanderson was born June 9, 1927, in Duplin County and was a lifelong resident of Kinston. She was the daughter of the late Amos and Della Jones. She was retired from Caswell Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Franklin Sanderson Sr.; son Wade Len "Slugger" Sanderson; granddaughter Sharon Hill and great-granddaughter, Lindsey Weaver; sisters Hazel Jones, Bertha "Sis" Hardy, Golden "Goldie" Stroud, Kathleen Hill, Violet "Dolly" Banks, and Marie Evans and brothers, Simon Jones and Ashley Jones. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Southwood Memorial Christian Church with the Reverend Rick Vernon and Dr. Curtis Keith officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home of Pete Sanderson, 137 Orange Street, Kinston. Private interment will take place in the Sanderson Family Cemetery. She is survived by her children, Joan Brock and husband Carl, of Farmville, Pete Sanderson and wife Dana, of Kinston, June Sanderson of Raleigh, Derek Sanderson and wife Dianne, of Winterville, Barry Sanderson and wife Mary, of Kinston and Pam Sparks and husband Don, of Spring Hope; her brother, A.V. Jones (Kathy) of Richlands; grandchildren, Karen Dominquez, Lee Hill, Kevin Hill (Michelle), Pete Sanderson Jr. (Millicent), Kimberly Smith (Kyle), Sheri Page (Scott), David Lee, Melissa Weaver (Ryan), Derek Sanderson Jr. (Ann), Mark Moody (Sykonda), Matthew Moody (Liz), Glenn Strickland Jr. (Kristan), Chad Sparks, (Megan), Travis Sparks, (Ashley) and DJ Sparks; great-grandchildren, Kristina Garcia, Garrett Hill, Tyler Hill, Amber Bolick (Brandon), Tiffany Hill, Meredith Sanderson, Macy Sanderson, Brady Smith, Kiley Smith, Ashley Adams, Donnie Page, Laura Page, Leyton Weaver, Jackson Sanderson, Haleigh Moody, Dylan Moody, Deacon Moody, Summer Moody and Haylee Strickland; great-great-grandchild Ava Rogers and many nieces, nephews and friends.
