KINSTON - Rufus Franklin Allison Jr., 86, of Kinston went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 10, 2014. Born October 10, 1927, in Deland, Fla., he was the son of the late Rufus Franklin Allison Sr. and Sally Allison Noble. He grew up in Swannanoa, N.C., graduating from Swannanoa High School in 1944 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1945, serving two years as a Seaman 1st Class during WWII. Mr. Allison graduated from the University of Miami in 1951 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He was hired by DuPont in 1953 and worked there as a supervisor for 33 years. He also started his own business, Allison's Weather Systems in 1970 and worked well past "retirement." On January 9, 1955, he married the love of his life, Frances Davis and they enjoyed over 59 years together. In addition to his wife, Mr. Allison is survived by his children, Jackie Allison and partner Trish Denning, of Youngsville, N.C., Lou Anne Allison of Morehead City, Randy Allison and wife Paula, of Willow Spring, and Chris Allison of Kinston; brother, John Allison and wife Mary Ann, of Hampton, Va.; grandchildren, Taylor Allison, Stephanie Allison, Kylie Allison and Cooper Allison; niece, Sarah Allison; nephew, Neil Allison; and a large extended family. Ever the jokester, he loved boating, fishing, keeping the yard mowed, all kinds of desserts and his "slice of Heaven" in Swansboro. He loved and participated in the N.C. Senior Games program for over 15 years and was his wife's biggest supporter in Senior Games for over 27 years. His Senior Games family was a big part of both his and Frances' life and he loved them all dearly. He also loved his church family and the fun trips they took together. But most importantly, he loved his family and gave them the best life possible through his hard work and undying support for each in their own way. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Spilman Memorial Baptist Church in Kinston at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2014. A visitation and reception will be held immediately afterwards at the church fellowship hall. At other times, the family will receive visitors at their home.
