SNOW HILL - Mr. James Carl Sutton, 89, died Friday, March 30, 2012, following an extended period of declining health. A native of Greene County, he was born November 16, 1922, the son of Jim and Martha Taylor Sutton. He entered the U.S. Army in 1944, serving in the Pacific Theatre of WWII where he was wounded and earned the Purple Heart. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Greene County and farmed tobacco until his retirement. Mr. Sutton was a member of Harrell's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church where he had served in several offices and was very active until his health began to decline. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service. Interment will follow with Military Honors at the Mewborn Family Cemetery. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sutton was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Jones Sutton; brothers John D. Sutton, Raymond Sutton and Melvin Sutton; and sisters Helen Williams, Ruby Jane Davis, Lucy Head and Evelyn Fowler. His surviving family includes his wife, Margaret Johnson Morris; sons Mike Sutton and wife Sandra, Bill Sutton and wife Becky and Ricky Sutton and wife Lou Ann, all of Snow Hill; a sister, Martha S. Johnson of Snow Hill; brother James Norwood "Stubby" Sutton of Wilson; four grandsons, Reverend Todd Sutton, Brandon Sutton, Scott Sutton and Blake Sutton; a special granddaughter, Casey Whitfield; and great-grandchildren Laurie Sutton, Ashley Sutton and Elizabeth Sutton. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence, 453 Fort Run Road, Snow Hill.
