LA GRANGE - Catherine Barnhill Mooring, 91, passed away early Sunday, June 10, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was born May 26, 1921, in Pitt County to the late Arthur and Lillis Barnhill. Mrs. Mooring graduated from East Carolina Teachers College, now ECU, in 1945 and taught at La Grange School. While living in La Grange, she met and married Edward C. Mooring while he was in the United States Navy stationed at Camp Lejeune. They lived at Camp Lejeune and Norfolk until he was discharged from the Navy. After a few years in Tarboro, they returned to La Grange where they have lived since. A member of La Grange Christian Church, Catherine taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. Catherine is survived by her husband of sixty five years, Edward C. Mooring; two children, James Edward and wife, Deane of La Grange and Betty Jo and husband, John Butler of Cornelius; three grandchildren, Edward Trent Mooring and wife, Caroline of Kinston, Megan Burton and husband, Ryan of Charlotte and Audrey Bell and husband, Clinton of Charlotte; two great-grandchildren, Graham Burton of Charlotte and Eva Mooring of Kinston. In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen; and two brothers, Roscoe and Horace. A family graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at 10 a.m. from Fairview Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. from La Grange Christian Church. Catherine's family desires that memorials be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534 or La Grange Christian Church, P.O. Box 442, La Grange, NC 28551.
