CHARLOTTE - Christine Avery Croom, 87, of Wilora Lake Lodge, Charlotte, formerly of Kinston and Trenton died March 29, 2013. Christine was born on November 28, 1925 in Greene County to the late Hubert Avery and Minnie Pilgreen Avery. Christine or "Teenie", as she was affectionately known by her friends and family, graduated from Maury High School in 1943. The widow of James H. Croom (Jake), she is survived by her daughter, Elaine Dove and husband Delmar of Mint Hill, NC, grandsons Don McDaniel and wife Staci of Mint Hill, Erik Dove and wife Elisa of Charlotte, four great grandsons, Jake, Kyle and Luke McDaniel and Bryce Dove, and one sister Geraldine Letchworth of Saratoga. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mavis Owens, Nettie Smith, Myrtle Bloom, Elizabeth Mick, Joyce Hill, Ellen Johnston and brothers, James Henry Avery, John Thomas Avery and John Robert Avery. Mrs. Croom retired in 1985 as a cost clerk for the Jones County School Bus garage where she worked with her husband "Jake" for 30 years. The family would like to thank the Levine and Dickson Hospice House of Charlotte, for their outstanding care and support during this time. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am, Monday, April 1, 2013 at Garner Funeral Home with her service to begin at 11:00. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
