GRIFTON - Earl Rountree Braxton, 88, of Grifton, N.C. passed away July 31, 2012, at Vidant Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde R. and Ethel Rouse Braxton. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army who served with the Combat Engineers, Philippine Islands in WWII. Earl was a tobacco farmer and a member and Elder of Airy Grove Christian Church. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed time spent with family, sharing his words of wisdom and enjoyed fishing at South River, N.C. Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Annie Killingsworth Braxton; daughter Lora B. Hall and husband Charlie; grandson Jeff Braxton and wife Amy; great-grandson Jack Wade Braxton; sisters Madeline B. Davis, Grace B. Murphy, Joyce B. Taylor and husband Bobby; and many beloved nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends at Garner Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2012. The Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. at Garner Funeral Home on Saturday, August 4, 2012, with Dexter Wasson and Nelson Killingsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Airy Grove Christian Church, 1151 Airy Grove Church Rd., Kinston, NC 28501. Arrangements are by Garner Funeral Home.
