KINSTON - On Wednesday, March 13, 2013, Elizabeth Britt Askew went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born in Wayne County and was preceded in death by her parents, Robert W. and Clara Mae Grant Britt; and brother, Harvey Britt. Elizabeth, with her husband Ben, was co-owner of Lenoir Tire and Appliance. She also retired from W. Roy Poole, Inc. after working there for 37 years. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church having served as secretary and Sunday school teacher. She also served as president, secretary, and treasurer of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. As a member of the Kinston Host Lions Auxiliary, she served as treasurer. Elizabeth received the President's Award in 1984 and a special award in 1990 from the Home Builders Association of Kinston. Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Ben V. Askew; daughters Elizabeth Ann Koehler and husband, Rev. Bob Koehler of Fredericksburg, Va. and Clara Jo Teague of Raleigh; son Martin L. Askew and wife Debbie; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother Edward Gray Britt; sisters Jean Casey Becton of Goldsboro and Nina Ellen Britt of Kinston. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Faith Lutheran Church. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Ron Fletcher conducting the service. Burial will be held at Westview Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 709 W. Vernon Avenue, Kinston, NC 28501.
