CARY - Emmett R. Waller Jr. passed away peacefully on November 25, 2012. Born in Lenoir County, Emmett was the youngest of five children. A 1955 graduate of N.C. State University with a BS degree in Agronomy, Emmett worked 40 years with the United States Department of Agriculture-Natural Resource Conservation Service in various management positions in field and state offices before retiring in 1997. He married his childhood sweetheart, Rebecca "Becky" Turner in 1954 and had three children. Over the course of their career years, the Wallers lived in Kinston and Walnut Cove before moving their family to Cary in 1969. Emmett was a leader in civic, homeowner association and church life. Emmett was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett R. Waller Sr. and Retha Johnson Waller; one brother, Forrest Waller; three sisters, Lovelace Posey, Lucille Lancaster and Zora Evans; and his wife of 57 years, Becky T. Waller. He is survived by two daughters and one son all of Cary: Donna W. Crook and husband Bryan, Emmett R. "Randy" Waller III and wife Nancy, Amy W. Sullivan and husband John; five grandchildren: Allen Waller of London, UK; Mary Rebecca (Crook) Skinner and husband Chris, of Raleigh; Phillip Crook of New York, N.Y.; Rebecca Sullivan of Cary; and Logan Sullivan of Cary; and one great-grandchild, Emmett Skinner. A celebration of Emmett's life will be held at Westwood Baptist Church, 200 Westhigh Street in Cary, on Saturday, December 1, at 1 p.m. followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. A private burial will take place earlier. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his honor may be directed to Westwood Baptist Church "Bus Fund" or to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Hospice of Wake County, Homewatch Caregivers of Cary, Westwood Baptist Church and Waltonwood Assisted Living of Cary for their support and compassion.
