JACKSONVILLE - Grace Elizabeth Abbott Sawyer, 92, of Jacksonville, N.C. passed away Monday, March 18, 2013, at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville. Mrs. Sawyer was born August 3, 1920, to the late Jacob Samuel Abbott and Mamie Catherine Abbott of Kinston, and was married to the late Harold Bernard Sawyer. The Sawyers moved to Jacksonville in 1950 where Mrs. Sawyer was a homemaker, while raising their family. She was employed with Jacksonville High School as a cook, where she served many a hungry student with a smile that they would remember for years to come. Mrs. Sawyer went on to support her husband in his business ventures, and was a sewing machine operator for March Manufacturing for years. She was a loving person who had a smile and a welcoming spirit for everyone. Mrs. Sawyer loved her family and her spirits were always lifted when she had visits from her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. She was the favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews. Survivors include her two sons, Rodney Sawyer and wife Delores, of Morehead City and Jim Sawyer of Jacksonville; one daughter, Linda Morrow and husband Ron, of Raleigh; daughter-in-law, Pat Sawyer of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with funeral services beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
