DEEP RUN - Gurnice Earl Deaver, 78, of Deep Run passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2013, at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Mr. Deaver was born in Duplin County on May 30, 1935, to the late Dewey and Maggie Anderson Deaver. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Vonnie R. Humphrey. He was self-employed as a paint contractor for many years, and was a trader by heart and profession. He also enjoyed scouting for farm equipment deals at county auctions. Earl was always on the go looking for the next deal and was seen in different counties searching for more equipment to buy and resell. He will be remembered as a "hands on'' man and liked doing things his way. Earl enjoyed going once a month on Tuesday to the Goldsboro auction. He was also a member of Grace Baptist Church. Earl is survived by his wife, Peggy Smith Deaver of the home; his son, Jeffrey Earl Deaver and wife Stacy Williams Deaver, of Deep Run; two grandchildren, Kayla Elizabeth Deaver "Peaches" and Blaire Nicole Deaver "Angel"; two sisters, Lena M. Gray and Edna R. Taylor of Kinston; four brothers, Alton Deaver, Garland Deaver, and Marvin Deaver, all of Kinston and Dalton Deaver of Newport N.C. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2013, at Grace Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Bradley officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home.
