KINSTON - Born Aug. 23, 1914, in NYC, daughter of Sam and Sadie Fuchs. Harriet graduated from City College at the age of 19 with a degree in accounting. She married Max Chused, a podiatrist in NYC in 1933. In 1947, they moved to Kinston, N.C. to join the family apparel business, Hampton Industries. Harriet was active in many civic, religious and social organizations. She was a pink lady at Lenoir Memorial Hospital for over 50 years serving over 5000 hours. She served as the first female president of Temple Israel, president of Kinston chapter of AAUW, and on the local and regional boards of Hadassah. For recreation she enjoyed traveling, especially to family simchas, baking, and playing bridge, reaching the level of silver Life Master. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Max Chused; and sister, Carol Kaufman. She is survived by her children, Suzanne Bearman (Howard), Paul Chused (Debbie), Andy Chused (Rhonda); 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; her sister, Pearl Schechter; and brothers, Dave Fuchs and Les Fuchs.
