After years of following her husband as he ministered to many parishes of the Episcopal Church, she returned to Kinston in 1993 where she served as the financial secretary at First Baptist Church. Her greatest joys in life were her family and her church and choir. She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church where, until her health failed her, she could be found every Sunday doing what she loved most – making a "Joyful Noise Unto the Lord." She was preceded in death by her husband, the Reverend Alfred F. Scogin Jr. She is survived by her son, R. Craig Scogin of Truchas, New Mexico; daughter Nancy S. Boyles and husband Terry, of Kinston; grandchildren Damien L. Scogin and wife Nina, of New York City, Joshua B. Boyles and wife Karen, of Kinston, Courtney Boyles and partner Johnny Williamson, of Grantsboro, N.C.; great-grandchildren Emerson Gaskins of Grantsboro, Barrett Boyles and Rob Parsons of Kinston, Jane Scogin of New York City, and her special pup, Sadie. She also leaves behind all her special "choir family" at St. Mary's; special friends, Belle Boyles and Jewell Rider, and her "adopted daughter" Antoinette Anglin. A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 800 Rountree Avenue with the Reverend A. Michael Singer and the Reverend Tom Warren officiating. Interment will follow in St. Francis Garden. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church and other times at the home of Terry and Nancy Boyles, 1910 Carey Road.
