SNOW HILL - Mr. Hugh Harvey Hill Jr., 70, died Monday morning, March 19, 2012. A native of Greene County, Hugh was born November 18, 1941, the son of Hugh H. Hill Sr. and Irene Dudley Hill. Following graduation from Snow Hill High School he attended Wayne Community College. Hugh retired in 1999 after working more than 35 years with E.I. DuPont in Kinston. Hugh served his country and state as a member of the N.C. National Guard for more than 37 years. An active and instrumental part of the Arba Fire Department and Rescue, Hugh served as Chief for 25 years and was still currently serving on the department's board at the time of his death. Hugh loved helping others and truly believed in contributing to his community, neighbors and friends. He was a member of Hull Road Original Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Hull Road OFWB Church with the Reverend Leon Grubbs officiating. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Military Honors. In addition to his father, Hugh was preceded in death by a brother, Edward A. Hill; and a sister, Helen Hill Morris. Survivors include his beloved and devoted wife of 46 years, Hilda Murphy Hill; mother Irene Dudley Hill of Snow Hill; brother Tommy Hill and wife Deborah, of Snow Hill; sister Alma Hill Carraway of Snow Hill; sister-in-law Geraldine M. Garner of Farmville; brothers-in-law Fred Murphy of Kinston and Horace Murphy and wife Diane, of Greenville; and several special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service and other times at the Hill residence, 134 Peter Grant Road, Snow Hill.
