KINSTON - Hugh Hallet Howard, 84, died Friday, September 14, 2012 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center at Goldsboro, N.C. Hugh was born April 5, 1928 to Amos and Bertie Whaley Howard of Pink Hill, N.C. Hugh graduated from Pink Hill High School. He served in WWII in the Navy on the USS Washington. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Rouse Road, Kinston, N.C., served as a Junior Boy's teacher for many years, also as a deacon and held other positions. His time as a Gideon was a real blessing for himself and the many people that benefited. He worked for Pilot Life Insurance Company for 30 years until retiring and was a member of the Kinston Lions Club. He owned and operated Garner-Howard Funeral Home for 8 years and made many friends. Funeral services will be held 2:00 Sunday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Chuck Towery officiating. A private burial will be held at Pinelawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 pm Sunday at First Baptist Church and other times at the home. Hugh is survived by his wife; June Howard of the home, children; Ron Howard of New Bern, Jan Sutton and husband Timothy of Kinston, and Lori Holland of Clayton. He is also survived by his grand children; Cayla Sutton Sanderlin and husband Jonathan of New Bern and Aaron Sutton and wife Ashlee of Kinston, sister; Eloise Hemby of Kinston and great granddaughter; Olivia Jordan Sanderlin.
