SNOW HILL - Mrs. Irene Jones Tilghman, 82, died Sunday afternoon, April 20, 2014. A native of Greene County she was born August 29, 1931, and was the daughter of Maurice Jackson Tilghman and Alma Jones Tilghman. She was a graduate of the Snow Hill High School and worked for more than 30 years as the manager of Pope's Dime Store in Snow Hill. A member of Hull Road OFWB Church, she had formerly served as Sunday School Secretary for 21 years and had also taught both Sunday school and Bible school. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with the Reverend Leon Grubbs officiating. Committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, at the Snow Hill Cemetery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Cathy Tilghman; and brother, Melvin Tilghman. Her surviving family includes her son, Cannis Tilghman and wife Brenda, of Snow Hill; brother Wallace Tilghman and wife Kim, of Snow Hill; two nieces, two nephews, three great-nephews, one great-niece, and one great-great-niece.
