DEEP RUN - John Edward Thompson, 66, of 261 P.A. Nobles Store Road, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2012, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012, at Pink Hill Funeral Home. Visitation will follow the service. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Glenn Thompson; and four sisters, Lucille Jondle, Barbara Burke, Sally Saathoff, and Janet Luthro. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965-1969 and received the Purple Heart Award. He was a leader of the Tiger Cubs Pack #244 and later became a Boy Scout Leader. He was also an active member of American Legion Post 379. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Angie Thompson; and loyal and faithful canine companion, Rocky; children Richard Heath and wife Robin, Stacy Morris, Sherman Thompson and wife Brandie, and Tina Lewis; grandchildren Heather, Joshua, T.C., Preston, Hailey, Taylor, Austin, and Levi; great-grandchild Sarah Danielle; sisters Glenda Winters and Rosemary Meyers from Iowa; and Connie Good of Florida.
