LA GRANGE – On Saturday, September 7, 2013 the heavenly angels came for Karen Sue Hooten Fulcher and escorted her to her heavenly reward. Karen Sue was born October 30, 1958 in Lenoir County to Chester Randolph Hooten and Ruth Ellen Sutton Hooten. Karen Sue had a deep love for her Lord and Savior. She wanted nothing more than to be pleasing in His eyes. Her life exhibited that goal as she took every opportunity to spread the good news of Jesus. Whether through a home Bible Study, taking young people to the river for a retreat or just her everyday walk with God, His light guided her path. A people person she was, Karen Sue was very unselfish and always wanted to place others ahead of herself. She loved the farm life and everything it stood for. She enjoyed cooking, crochet, canning and bike rides down Sutton-Hooten Lane. She cherished family gatherings. Her fried chicken and chocolate turtle's were always family favorites. Karen Sue enjoyed her annual fall trip to the mountains and the Valle Crucis Craft Fair. She enjoyed watching The Andy Griffith Show, The Walton's, Little House On The Prairie and Elvis Presley movies. Karen Sue enjoyed clamming, boating and other water related activities with her husband, Barry who was from the coast. She loved Barry's family and made many special friends at the coast. Thanksgiving and Christmas were special times of the year for Karen Sue. She cherished what these two seasons meant as a Christian and as a lover of family. A dream of the family was a cabin at the river. This dream was fulfilled recently and the road leading to the cabin was named Karen Sue Lane. Karen Sue formerly worked with East Carolina Physicians and later worked with Lenoir County Public Schools in the child nutrition department. She attended Trinity Free Will Baptist Church in La Grange and on occasion would attend other local churches. Karen Sue cherished every moment with her young grandson, Chester Reid Fulcher. A service to celebrate and honor Karen Sue's life will be held Monday, September 9, 2013 at 7 p.m. from Bethel Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Gerald Fowler, Pastor Wayne Brown and Pastor Chris Truett officiating.
