GRIFTON - Kenneth Ray "Kenny" Ward, 61, of Grifton, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012. Kenny was a dearly loved and very devoted father, papa, son and brother. Kenny was born January 1, 1951, in Mount Olive to Rosa Belle Rogers and the late Norman Ward. He graduated from North Lenoir High School in 1972. Kenny retired from the Weyerhauser Greenville Lumber Facility in Ayden. He served many years with the Kinston Jaycees and the Lenoir County Fair Association. In addition to his father, Kenny was preceded in death by his beloved step-father and friend, Lonnie "Bill" Eastham; along with his faithful canine companion, Misty. In earlier years, Kenny enjoyed drag racing, fishing, tinkering, grilling and cooking fish stews. A service of remembrance will be held Thursday, May 3, 2012, at 2 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Rusty Alphin officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Kenny is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 33 years, Kaye Adams Ward; son William Kalan Whitley and wife Brandi, of Grifton; two special granddaughters and the light of their Papa's eyes, Nadia Piper Whitley and Effy Paige Whitley; his mother, Rosa Belle Rogers Eastham of Kinston; two brothers, Doug Ward and wife Gail, of Supply and Dennis Ward and wife Sheree, of Fuquay-Varina; sister Kathy Thompson of Aberdeen; two step-sisters, Sheila Jackson and husband Tim, of Creedmoor and Michelle Landrum and husband Mitch, of Virginia Beach; and a step-brother, Jim Eastham of Bradenton, Fla. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1-2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home.
