GREENSBORO - Professor LeAnder Canady, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland and Mary Canady who resided at 3606 Lakefield Drive, Greensboro, N.C. and formerly of Kinston, moved on to his next phase with God on Tuesday, June 25, 2013. He graduated from Woodington High School class of 1968. He continued his post graduation studies at North Carolina A&T State University where he received his B.S. degree in Science-Art and his masters of Fine Arts at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. LeAnder foremost loved God, his parents, siblings, and his long career as an Art-Science professor. He was extremely dedicated to his profession, mentoring and encouraging his students to strive for excellence. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi fraternity; served as a Trustee Board member of the North Carolina Museum of Arts in Raleigh, N.C. and many other organizations which he received numerous awards in his honor. LeAnder leaves behind to cherish fond memories and celebrate his earthly life, his parents, Cleveland and Mary Canady of Kinston, N.C.; his five brothers, Benny Earl, Lenon, Clevon, and Marvin Glen, all of Kinston, and Larry Vernell of Raleigh, N.C.; three sisters, Edna Russell of Kinston, N.C., Linda McNair of Clinton, Md., and Denise Hall of Raleigh, N.C. He will also be remembered by a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, friends, and colleagues. A public viewing will be held on Sunday, July 7, 3013, from 4-6 p.m. at Chappell Funeral Home, 555 Creech Road, Garner, N.C. 27569. A memorial service will be held in his honor at NC A&T University, Arts Foundation in Greensboro, N.C. on July 10, 2013, from 1-3 p.m. Local announcement by Albritton-Carraway Funeral Home.
