KINSTON - Mattie Dail Dupree, the daughter of the late Charlie Thomas Dail and Subie McLawhorn Dail, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, in Monroe, N.C. Born on January 1, 1917, in Greene County, she married George Brubaker Dupree on July 29, 1941. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Elmer, Thurman, and Lester Dail, and sister Ruby Dail Daugherty. Mrs. Dupree was an active member of First Baptist Church in Kinston where she served on numerous committees, taught the 5 year-olds in Sunday school, and was an assistant teacher at the First Baptist Church kindergarten. Her passions in life were her church, her family, her vegetable garden, and her flowers. Mrs. Dupree is survived by her son, Dale Dupree and his wife Laraine, of Wingate, N.C.; grandchildren Kim Dupree Downs, Wingate and Tommy Dupree and wife Allison, of Monroe, N.C.; great- grandchildren, Cody Dupree and Samantha Dupree of Monroe, N.C., Savannah Downs and Travis Downs of Wingate, N.C.; and step-great-grandchildren, Anna Plyler and Robert Plyler of Monroe, N.C. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Alice (Mae) Dail Skinner of Greenville, N.C. and numerous nieces and nephews. Her home-going celebration will be held Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Kinston. The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home, 702 N. Queen Street, Kinston on Friday evening, July 27 from 6:30-8 p.m. and at the church immediately following the celebration service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to First Baptist Church, 2600 Rouse Road, Kinston, NC 28504, or to NC Lions, Inc., PO Box 39, Sherrills Ford, NC 28673.
