KINSTON - Milton (Pete) Dixon, age 78, died Monday, December 10, 2012, at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill, N.C. after suffering a severe illness he could not overcome and passed peacefully from this life in the presence of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Teachey Dixon and Lillie Harrell Dixon both of Beulaville, N.C.; his brother, James Edwin Dixon of Griffin, Ga. and his wife, Betty Lanier Dixon of Kinston, N.C. Pete grew up on a farm in rural Duplin County. He was a 1953 graduate of Chinquapin High School. He later was given his nickname "Pete" while working in Staple CP at the DuPont Kinston Dacron Plant. In 1955 he was drafted into the United States Army where he served two proud years of active military service in West Germany. He began his highly distinguished career in the fire service while working under Mr. David Lee in the newly formed Lee Fire Equipment and Supplies. Pete was known for his amazing mechanical mind and dependable work ethic which he used in maintaining fire trucks and emergency equipment. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Community Funeral Home of Beulaville, Beulaville, N.C. Interment will follow in the Judge Family Cemetery, Beulaville. He is survived by his son, Robert Dixon. Dallas, Texas. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be left online at communityfuneralhomenc.com.
