KINSTON - The funeral service for Peter C. "Pete" Joyner, who passed away on Friday, June 7, 2013, at the VA Medical Center in Durham, N.C., will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. W. K Raynor officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Gardens. Pete was chairman of the Trustee Board at First Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member for over 60 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He was a member of several organizations to include the American Legion Post #219; past Commander of King David Lodge #24; Arabian Temple #42; and Chaplain of the Blind Veterans Association. He was married to the late Doris Joyner for over 65 years. He leaves to cherish his memories, four daughters, Monica Sykes of the home, Monte Floyd of Lutz, Fla., Oveta Thompson of Atlantic City, N.J., and Leytricia Marshall of Kinston, N.C.; one son, Bernard Joyner of Kinston, N.C.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Masonic Rites will be held at Albritton-Carraway Funeral Home Chapel at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013. Albritton-Carraway Funeral Home will be in charge of the service.
